Hyper-On Experience official facebook page / soundcloud

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

I was really excited to see today that Alex Banks of E-Z Rollers has set up an official HYPER-ON EXPERIENCE facebook page, which already has some great stories about the history of the group. There’s also an official soundcloud page now too!

If go check the earliest posts on this blog, you know these guys were 100% my favorite oldskool act ever no questions asked. I remember finding a copy of the “Lords of the Null Lines” remix 10″ around ’99/2000, and being totally blown away (obviously everyone knows and loves the the FP remix, the kaotic chemistry remix is top as well though!). Seriously don’t try to even talk to me about this group unless you want to hear the insane jabberings of a sad nerd because I will go on and on and on. Instead, just check these links:

Hyper-On Experience – “Consciousness” (unreleased)

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Someone was asking about this never-released Hyper-On / Bukem collab tune, so I decided to rip it today from the one set I believe it was featured in – an LTJ Bukem Yaman mix from 94 or so. Props to Hardscore for hosting the original mix. I’m pretty sure Bukem plays almost the entire track in this mix, all 8 minutes of it or so. Despite being a huge Hyper-On fan, I’m not as into this track as their earlier stuff. It’s a good tune and very “of the time” (that 94-96 Good Looking sound) but not as manic as their earlier releases. Still, it’s nice to hear some Hyper-on drum work alongside Good Looking melodies. I asked Bukem about this track a couple of years ago and he said it would eventually be released on another one of those “producers” comps of his old tunes, so maybe it will eventually come out… at the rate Good Looking releases new stuff, you can expect to see it hit stores right around the time the sun burns out :(

Flytronix – Shadowlandz

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Here’s a tune I was reminded of by a recent comment on here… it actually may not be the track referred to in the comment, but it’s a wicked tune/EP nonetheless. Flytronix aka Danny Demierre was one half of best-oldskool-group-ever Hyper-On Experience, in addition to doing some great singles of his own on Moving Shadow (everyone into early sick choppy beats NEEDS First Encounta). As discogs notes, “Shadowlandz” features similar Predator-related samples to “Lords of the Null Lines”. However, the construction and approach couldn’t be more different – “Shadowlandz” is far darker than the original “lords” and sounds a great deal more like Hyper-on’s later EP The Family We Never Had. Rather than drastic musical changeups every few bars, Danny let’s the tracks here build much more slowly and organically, dropping parts in and out so that the track slowly mutates over its nearly 8 minutes. Quite different from “Deaf in the Family” then, but still absolutely great in its own right.

Hyper-on Experience Live PA @ Dance Paradise, April 1993 Video

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Endless thanks to MattyC from B2VOS for hooking me up with the original DVD for this…Matt is the same guy who also ripped the original Hyper-on Experience 92 Demo featured on here a while back. if anyone can recommend a free streaming site where I can host the full clip for this as a single file (~18 minutes), please let me know.

The original video quality isn’t that great, but who cares… it’s Hyper-on Experience!! Kind of amazing to see them dropping their craziest two tunes first , the crowd kind of doesn’t know what hits them.. Also, I’m pretty sure that’s DJ Trax on the turntables / scratching for them.

Mixrace & Proton Iso-Space – Kings

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Here’s an underrated EP written some of my all-time favorite jungle producers: Mixrace (Dev Paradox & DJ Trax) and Hyper-on Experience . With that kind of talent you can guess the quality of the beats, and this single doesn’t dissapoint. This track is a bit more recent (96), so the music is a bit more stripped down than earlier productions by these acts, but the beats more than make up for it. Mixrace + Proton Iso-space also collaborated on The Endless Skies EP, which I like maybe even more than this EP and may post a track from some time in the future. Also, Dave Trax used to scratch as part of the Hyper-on Experience live PA.

Also, this is another bare cheap EP… I nabbed a second copy for 1 GBP last time I was in the UK.

Plastic Clothes Mechanics (Pre-Hyper-On Experience/EZ Rollers)

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Here’s an interesting tune of historical note… I believe it was the first released single by Alex and Jay of EZ Rollers (of which Alex was 1/2 of Hyper-On Experience). It dates back to 1990… that’s not just some made-up date on discogs, the record actually says “copyright 1990″ on it. You can hear it in the track as the production is pretty rough, but still, it’s fun to hear where these guys started from.

Hyper-On Experience

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Hyper on Experience are my favorite hardcore/jungle act ever. No other group finds such a sweet spot between experimentalism and, for lack of a better term, dancy-ness… combining well written melodies with crazy chopped drums and unique programming. “Deaf In the Family” is probably their best EP, since it’s at the peak of both their melody writing and choppy drumming. It has great artwork too.

Here’s a treat I found on an another blog which has since been taken down – a 1992 demo from the group. It was originally ripped by MattyC on B2VOS from a promo tape the group gave him. The tape itself sounds like it was recorded sometime between the release of their first and second EP, since there are complete songs from the first EP, but just 1 possible early version of a song from the second EP. What’s great about this tape is that most of these tracks were never released, and never appeared in any mixes which I’ve heard. They’re a lot rougher than most later Hyper-On stuff, but just as amazing.

1. Unknown (“fantasies are no escape”)
2. Unknown (“give yourself to me”)
3. Unknown (“can’t wait tonight”)
4. The Frightener
5. H.E. Anthem
6. Unknown (“we’re all dancing on a thin line”)
7. Unknown – possibly an early version of “Assention (to the 9th level)”, since it uses chunks from that tune.

You can buy “Deaf in the Family” on RHAPSODY or ITUNES. Here’s the EP on Youtube:
