Strange Obscurities: Parabox “Silvermachine” + Justice EP

Here’s a couple of really strange singles I’ve ended up with that are more obscure and interesting than they are awesome… but I think they’re still worth posting for some of the nerdier oldschool collectors on here like me, who really wonder about each and every obscure white label.
Parabox “Silvermachine” features three remixes of Hawkwind “Silver Machine”, with minimal other elements. There’s a looping breakbeat, cut up guitar bits, the booming chorus from the tune, and not a whole lot else. This EP isn’t particularly my bag, I think I’d like it a bit more if it was at least slightly more oldskool sounding: if the breaks were cut up a bit instead of just being 1 measure looped through the whole song, or if there was some more synth on top / less little guitar sounds. As it stands, it almost sounds more like a drum breakdown in the middle of a rock song, where all instruments but the drums stop playing and the singer starts blabbing on about something or other before the band launches back into the triumphant chorus. Still, ridiculous rock-hardcore tracks like this are kind of fun if only because big corny rock riffs are about as close as you can get to something sounding “out of place” in oldschool hardcore.

Anyone looking for a similar type tune which is pulled off a bit better can check out Jem 77 – Eruption.

The Justice EP – is more technoey Ep, hardcore in tempo. Dark stompy kicks and space sounds. B1 is slightly reminiscent of early Sounds Never Seen releases. Nothing that blew me away, but not bad and worth the dollar I paid for it.
