Citadel of Kaos – Ronnie’s Revenge

Here’s another relatively well known oldschool tune, but since I finally just bought a copy it warrants posting… I’ll get back to the obscurities soon enough. “Ronnie’s Revenge” is excellent 92 hardcore/jungle with a happy bent, made by Jan Salisbury (who went on to keep the Citadel of Kaos name for doing happy hardcore stuff solo on his own), and Jason Cambridge (who continues to do quality dnb). This throws a lot of competing sounds at you – filtered stabby synths, a nasty acid line, some really choice hands-in-the-air piano & diva vocals… Somehow all of this is merged into a coherent, euphoric whole.

These Citadel of Kaos EPs were repressed back in 2002, I remember picking a few of them up then but didn’t buy this one at the time… too bad since this is possibly their best. All Citadel of Kaos eps on BP are good though, grab em if you see em!!

  1. I played this for a bunch of bassline / electro hipsters (in toronto) last spring and they were loving it.
