Someone requested a Macka Brown track for the blog recently. Since I don’t have the one they asked for, here’s a great white label by him instead. For those who don’t know, Macka Brown is AKA Bug Kahn, of Bug Kahn and the Plastic Jam “Made in 2 Minutes” fame. Most of his EPs around this time were on Labello Blanco, but despite being a whitelabel, both sides of this EP are total quality in my opinion – really nice feel-good 92 stuff. Ragga vocals (the classic “going is rough” acapella by Cocoa Tea and Cutty Ranks, as used in Sonz of a Loop Da Loop “Bust that Groove” , and, more importantly, in this great YTMND), melodic bleeps and pads, a euphoric breakdown… with a bit heavier drums or some slight melody tweaks, this EP sounds like it could have EASILY been on a big big label.
This “dibbi dibbi dj” track is actually the b side tune – the a side is similarly nice, with some ragga vocals where one of the layers is pitched up, the other down – really unique sounding. I was torn which side to post, originally I favored the A side but this one has grown on me due to the heavier breaks and the Cutty Ranks vocals. Either way, it’s not a super pricey record, so nab a copy and decide for yourself which is best.

really liking this one! cheap too.
Thanks a lot for this. Recognise the tune, but never realised Macka Brown sampled ‘Going Is Rough’ twice on two different tracks. An education as always.
Now intrigued about that A side obviously……
Some great tunes under that alias. ‘Armed and Dangerous’ from the other EP is just fantastic.

[...] Aside from that though, he did a number of other cool EPs, both under his own name (such as The Princess of the Posse whitelabel EP) and as Princess of the Posse (who did these two cool EPs). This tune is definitely inline with the [...]
