Gunstar Hero’s – Did You Love Me?

Thanks to my buddy Alfredo aka MC Assassin in Rotterdam for reminding me of this tune on facebook… I picked this up a few years ago and never saw fit to post it, but it’s a cool EP worth checking out regardless of which 94 styles you’re into. By an unknown artist on a one-off label, what makes this EP stand out from the pack is how it not only does three different styles over three different tracks (all within the realm of hardcore/jungle mind), it does all three pretty damn well!!

Starting with the A side, “Come Together” is a 94 breakbeat happy hardcore number which isn’t too far from Kniteforce stuff of the time… in fact I think it uses the same pianos as one of the big kniteforce EPs, drawing a blank which one right now. The choppy breaks and pitched drums rolling along keep it interesting for me. On the B side, you get the track I’m posting here, which is sort of a moody vibey 93 style track… not necessarily darkcore, but certainly in that direction. Again, nice percussion (here some timestretched and melodically pitch shifted drums) make it stand out. Finally, the third track is an all out crazy ragga jungle track – no surprises here, just mega-mashed amens + ragga vocals. It’s let down a bit by the production, but this last tune is still definitely playable and a fun lesser known ragga jungle tune to throw into a set.

Unfortunately no copies for sale now… damn, when I bought this some years ago it wasn’t nearly this rare. Either way, I guess one for the want list or you can pop over to youtube and stream the other tunes.

  1. I’m sure it is… same as the cloud 9 track of the same track on the “2 on 1” series. One of my favorite games of all time!

  2. Greetings from Idaho! I’m bored to tears at work so I decided to browse your website on my iphone during lunch break. I enjoy the knowledge you present here and can’t
wait to take a look when I get home. I’m shocked at how fast your blog loaded on my cell phone .. I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .

    . Anyways, superb site!

  3. Only 500 copies of this released. The piano break on track one is from a Strictly Rhythm track I think.
