3 Way Split with Easygroove – Wicked Ones

Here’s a nice 92track by Easygroove and (according to Discogs, confirmation please???) Roni Size. It’s not nearly as crazy as you’d expect a track from THE TECHNO DREAD to be, but it would make sense for an early Roni Size tune… kind of slowjammy 94 melody sample with streamlined breaks, plus some more 92-ish synth work in the middle. This is definitely a track which has grown on me over time, due to it being in a number of great mixes not the least of which are some Easygroove favs. Solid beats, catchy vocal (from Martin Campbell – Wicked Rule), a few nice additional flourishes (the pitched up chopped vocals that sound somewhere between beatboxing and swearing). Nowhere near as manic I usually like my hardcore tracks to be… but I guess they can’t all be crazy mega chopped sampleadelic hardcore mayhem.

  1. Great Track!

Reminds me of Easygroove’s infamous Obsession ‘The third dimension’ 30.10.92 set. What a corker of a set that was!!!!

    Thanks for the post Pete!

  2. Also played it at Fantazia ‘One Step Beyond’ in July, Summer Dance Fest in August & Fantazia ‘Takes You Into 1993’. No doubt it was the test pressing as never heard anyone else playing it in ’92? 😉

  3. Yeh think you must be right for once there Thrash! LOL! only joking (PlasticFanatic from tuneid) 😉

  4. And yeah, never even noticed that ‘Ronnie’ is credited on the label. Very possible that it is Ronnie Size, as both he and EG are from the Bristol area – learn something new every day and all that!

  5. Hi guys thought i would help you out as i sat in on this very track being created. Yes it is Roni Size it was of his first pieces and commissioned by and with the help of easygroove (Dennis) it was made in Roni’s first studio based in Easton/Bristol which he ran with his brother.
