Sorry for the grimey rip here, my copy of this is pretty beat up… the two A-side tracks on this EP are basically sped up versions of Erik B + Rakim “Let the Rhythm Hit em” instrumental. True, other hardcore tracks use the same break as sampled in that tune (Assembly Line), or the specific Erik B + Rakim version with the “ungh” on top. However, this track takes it a bit further and adds the music in as well, from both the verse and the chorus. All that’s missing are those classic vocals… next time I spin this I should probably try playing the acapella on top!
Regardless of how original or not the music is, “Let the Rhythm Hit Em” is a top top top fav so hard not to like this tune as well when it pops into a mix etc.
Another hugely underrated tune, Ratty played this a few times back in ’93. Also released under the moniker ‘Brooklyn’:

Great post, a personal fave of mine! 🙂
Great. Was only listening to that Eric B & Rakim track yesterday. You must have heard my amp.
Thanks as ever Pete.

good call, yup it’s that plus bits of let the rhythm hit em
so the term “drum and bass” was being used even in 1992? wow, did not know that.
