Burning Chrome – Didn’t I Do The Best I Could

Here’s a great 5 tracker that’s been hard to grab the past year or two since some Discogs joker put up the sole copy for a couple hundred pounds, making everyone think it was worth that much. Shame since it’s a great EP, 5 really varied tracks almost all of which I could see playing in some context or another. Because of the large number of tracks the sound isn’t all that loud or razor sharp, but all the sequencing and overall mix is great on all the tunes, definitely playable and with some cool ideas sprinkled throughout. Burning Chrome is actually an alias by DJ Massive, who I’ve posted plenty of stuff by before and who hopefully will do an interview for the site sometime in the future.

I don’t think this particular track got much love from mixtapes back in the day, but it’s my personal favorite… some weird breaks leading up to a vocal drop and what sounds like a pitched up house beat combined with one of those “tip of my tongue” classic breaks I can’t ID right now. Since the other tracks are nearly as good, I’ll definitely try to rip another track or two in the near future.

  1. Another one from my wantlist! Was very hard to get hold of till fairly recently on discogs though, and as you said pete someone ruined the average asking price by pricing a copy above the £200 mark. Theres a (so called) mint copy going for sale now on there for £289.99. SAD!

  2. what?!? why would someone price this track that high? it’s not even like a classic thing. It’s not like Finest Illusion or the seal mix of Music Takes you! ha

  3. the initial copy was MIN/UNPLAYED STOCK/OMG, the seller that did that charges 5-10 x the going price for records. Other people saw it and assumed it was worth that much.

Some of the records that used to be most heavily in demand don’t even go for that much now, got original press label copy of finest illusion for 20 pounds a year or 2 ago 🙂

  4. An Easygroove favourite from back in the day and is on the Quest mix of his from late 92, which is in my personal top ten.

  5. Would love the other tunes off this EP! Had it, sold it, only made low quality rips beforehand. Can’t be arsed paying £40 for another copy!! I had no idea this was by DJ Massive…

  6. I’ve got 10 copies, mint unplaid – it was my label this was released on. If anyone is interested in buying 1 drop me a line
