Echo Minott – Weaponry

Another nice find from my London trip…as the comment on Discogs says, this is a classic ragga breakbeat track ala early Ragga Twins / Rebel MC / SUAD stuff. A bit strange that the label says it’s from 1993, as it sounds more like ’90, ’91 to me. No matter though, it’s a great vibey tune, though pretty slow (it’s pitched up +8% here) and extremely stripped down. The main reason this one stuck out to me was the vocal, which was used in this 93 obscurity:

Not necessarily a top favorite track of mine in of itself, but serious oldskoolers might recognize this from a certain classic Dreamscape mix, and if you’ve heard that mix more than a few times it’s pretty hard not to get that “murda bassline” part stuck in your head!

Also, people might be more familiar with the Jungle version of this from 94, which is great but also ridiculously rare/in-demand..

Anyway, here’s the early version I got, seems pretty easy to find on wax so if you like classic 90-91 stuff, consider nabbing it:

  3. I bought vol 1,2 and 3 on cd coz the vinyl was way outa my price range and the tracks fade out on the vinyl so was pointless to get it on vinyl I will put vol 2 and 3 up on youtube soon when I get the time lol

  4. ah cool, so the CD versions aren’t mixed? I tried DL’ing but it seemed to have edits, might have been ripped from the vinyl version though.

  5. Kinda crazy I just went through some old records and listened to soem happy trax. I think the only ones I had were 7 and 8 though
