Chemical – Heaven

OK, here’s a SERIOUS favorite that I’ve been spinning a lot the past few months and put in my last mix featured here. It was kind of fun to keep as a secret weapon since there’s numerous different sections you can mix that almost feel like separate tracks… but it’s definitely worth hearing the track in its entirety (all nearly 9 minutes of it!).

Chemical also did an EP on Basement and this track reminds me a bit of one of the tracks on that (“Sub Sector”), in that it sort of toggles more fun straight ahead hardcore with deeper euphoric housey hardcore parts, broken up by a big vocal breakdown. In fact, the breakdowns in these tracks use similar samples, maybe even the same one? However, where “Sub Sector” resolves back to its original parts later on, this track just goes deeper and deeper, constantly throwing new parts at you. No particularly shocking ideas or completely innovative melodies or samples, just raw quantity of “GOOD STUFF” being thrown in and taken out constantly. Rarely do you hear hardcore tunes with this much crammed in, as it’s a lot easier to just sequence up a couple parts, throw in some cheeky samples and call it a day. So hats off to the guys in Chemical for this one… serious, serious tune!!

  1. Great tune… Another I’ve never come across before. Seems like about 5 tunes in one, containing all the ingredients that make old skool so acoustically pleasing.

Was this ever played out back in the day? Don’t recognise it from any of the usual suspects sets….

  2. Easily one of my favorite tunes from this era. Their first release, “Paranoinia / Disturbance”, is also rather good. Wish they had released more stuff back in the day!
