I try to post a pretty wide variety of styles on this blog, at least within the spectrum of 91-95 hardcore/jungle sounds – dark stuff, happy stuff, anthems, super grungy white labels, etc. One style that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as others is jump up; I simply don’t own all that many jump up records, and to be honest a lot of the simplistic later releases soured me a bit on the style as a whole. That’s not to say there aren’t some great jump up tracks out there though, especially early on. Here’s one I just nabbed at the record store down the street last week, using the classic “six million ways to die – choose one” sample as used in quite a few other jungle tracks (primarily Uncle 22’s “choose one”, “six million ways to die” and the various remixes/remakes). Nice stuff, similar to other 95 ganja records related work which isn’t surprising since it’s by Dope Skillz aka DJ Zinc.
