Sir Spence – Non-Continuity EP

I picked up this Sir Spence – Non-Continuity EP recently, and at first I wasn’t totally sold on it. I finally got around to giving it some more listens recently, and it has really grown on me… to the point that it’s one of my better finds of 2008. The EP title is appropriate as there’s so much going on in these songs and so much variety from track to track; from catchy rave riffs in one tune, to LFO-panned opera samples portamento’d into yodeling in another. I couldn’t decide which tracks to post, so here’s the whole thing in a zip file. B2 “Life Will Mean Nothing” is the most (only?) well known one, as it was featured in an old Fabio set.

  1. Wow! What’s the story behind this one? It’s like proto Luke Vibert or something. Who was “Sir Spence” and what did he go on to do? The production is top notch (for ’92), and the ideas behind these tracks are all way ahead of their time. The variety of style and the professional sheen seems to point to an accomplished producer who is “dabbling”. I wouldn’t doubt that “Sir Spence” is actually an AKA for somebody more well known…I like this stuff a lot!
