It’s kind of tough to pick just one track to post by Brainstorm Crew, as there’s a number of wicked EPs / tracks by them. “Reach Up” is maybe my top all-time favorite hands-in-the-air piano anthem. “Pick up the Pace” is a classic ADD track with samples from tons of other formation tracks shuffled through at lightning speed. Lately though, I’ve been loving extra low-fi / grimey sounding tracks, and this EP fits that style to a T. So I’ll get to those other tunes sometime soon, for now here’s a track off their hard to find “Southey Woods” EP.

The primary member of this group (Richard) is now doing hardcore breaks stuff as Brainstormer, you can check his site here:

brilliant stuff! i love “the plastic ep” to bits 🙂
The Southey Woods EP is named after all the illegal parties that used to go on there. It’s just outside Peterborough where Brainstorm Crew originate from. I still go for a stroll round Southey Woods now…..
Great blog as well…… keep up the great work Pete!
Thanks for the info about Southey Woods.. I thought brainstorm crew were from Scotland?

Wow! A blog about my old trax, just stumbled upon this one through Google. The Southey Woods EP was a bad pressing, I still have the clean versions of the tracks kicking about somewhere. And yes, Southey Woods was a place where we partied until the early morning. Those were the days!
As for the Scotland reference, that’s where I’ve lived for the past 10 years. I was producing Hardcore Breaks for a while as Brainstormer, I also produce Electro & dubstep under the monika ‘Lektroid’.
Thanks for posting the blog, nice to see people reminiscing the good old days!
wow lovely stuff 😀 but can any 1 tell me the sample @1:15 please?
you mean the piano? just an oldskool rave piano , used in landlord – “I like it” outlander “vamp” and plenty of others – could be from a synth (maybe the M1?), could be from an old sample CD.
