Es-Pee-Dee & Dj Distroi – Alphawave EP

Here’s an all-time classic that may be “played out” for some more clued in collectors (as it’s an absolute must-have) but it is definitely overlooked by more casual fans. “Alphawave” (actually an untitled A1 track on the EP, but referred to as by that name due to the vocal sample in it) is simplicity itself – 1 or 2 breakbeats simply looped, one synth sound which alternates back and forth between two parts, simple but massive bass, and nothing else… no crazy cut up beats, edited breakdowns, or anything of that sort. That’s probably why this tune is so memorable – that melody really worms its way into your head after minimal listens.

I’m not entirely sure whether my copy of this is a bootleg or not… it definitely came in the picture sleeve as shown on discogs, but there might have been a repress with a similar stamp. If anyone can tell from the sound on my copy, let me know.

  1. I have the original of this I bought in 1992, white/yellowish label with alpha wave E.P printed on the center.

Look like an original pressing o me from the photo.

  2. My copy is different… it has the BPSI EP, BPSI001 stamp on the b-side label, and a plain white label on the a-side, no Direct Force stamp.

  3. yeah my copy is just like Coldsnaps except I don’t remember if there’s a BPSI001 stamp on the record label itself, will have to check when I’m home.

  4. I bought this from Blackmarket records back in the day. It came unmarked with a pink label.
