Here’s a classy 92 tune which, if not known by name, many would definitely recognize from mixes – Seduction, Top Buzz and plenty of others top DJs played this back in 92. “Unite” is yet more wickedness from the 786/Deja Vu Recordings camp, who did “Started Again” as well as numerous other classics. No idea about the artist behind it, as with a lot of early Deja Vu eps there’s no info on the artist unless it happened to be a known one (eg Messiah). This track is all about the main vocal sample, a snippet of undetermined origin (anyone know?) repeating “black and white you feel alright!” coupled with some ragga vocal bits. There’s also a nice Landlord “I like it” piano line (reminiscent of SL2 “Dj’s Take Control”), and breaks that remind me of that tune a bit as well. This main part alternates with a more stabby second part similar to the breakdown i”DJ’s Unite”. In a sense, it’s kind of “DJ’s Unite” Vs “DJ’s Take Control”, though there’s definitely some more original elements as well. The B-side is an alternate mix of this tune, also good and with some different elements but this main mix is the one for me. Really wicked tune and also not too hard to track down on wax.
