DJ Devine & Essence – Ease Up

This is one of my favorite tracks on Production House, super choppy cut up breakbeat goodness. The 94 Production House stuff doesn’t seem to be nearly as in demand as the earlier releases, which is a shame because they put out some wicked tracks like this one. Starting with some dicey amen snares, the breaks in this tune slowl build to a pretty frantic pace, before a ragga vocal sample cuts in. Then, things go absolutely haywire, with beats panning and retriggering all over the place in a manner not too common in Jungle, all the while not losing the fundamental rhythm of the tune. There’s little going on with melody here, save a pad during a secondary part – mostly it’s just those manic drums and deep bass. For fans of proper choppy drums like me, this track is basically “beat heaven”.
One thing to watch out for, for anyone who buys this tune on wax + spins it: the “ease up selector” vocal throws the measure count off, so it’s best to mix right after it drops.
