Vibes – Underground Vibes

Here’s a nice score from my last NY trip a few weeks ago. Had this on my wants for a while, in retrospect it’s not a super crazy catchy track but it has “that weather report break” which is one of my top top few favorite breakbeats, plus some good oft-used ragga samples in it. The artist behind this didn’t do much oldskool but did quite a few speed garage releases years later, under the name DJ Supreme (not to be confused with DJ Supreme in Hijack, or the one on Bogwoppa). Not much else to say about this one other than it’s a cool no label release, def worth checking out the other tracks as well!

  1. yup, absolutely love the steady sixteenth note rolling feel, unfortunately doesn’t translate that well to current high bpms unless you highpass/otherwise process it, but sounds really perfect original speed up through, say, 150 or so.

  2. I went out and got the Weather Report 5xCD box set yesterday. I’m totes gonna rinse it… didn’t realise Billy Cobham was their drummer!

  3. my bad that was mahavishnu I was thinking of re: billy cobham, he’s got a similar crazy techy break in a mahavishnu track that this reminds me of a bit.

  4. whoa!!! crazy jazz breaks a go go! billy cobham rocks big time indeed. Thanks dudes! 😀
