Bass Selective – Jessica’s Jaw

From the mega-cheap-why-don’t-you-buy-this-record, to a pricier and harder to find bit from Bass Selective. Bass Selective is best known as being a project involving Mark Royal aka T Power aka best jungle album of all time (“self evident truth of an intuitive mind”) maker – that was a bit later in his career though (95) , from 92 until 94 he cranked out some absolutely great hardcore both as part of Bass Selective and on his own! Bass Selective’s biggest track was likely “Blow out part 2”, an epic piano + diva vocal hardcore classic. This tune has a pitched horn sound that reminds me a bit of Nookie “Give a little love”, or going back further Shades of Rhythm “Homicide”. For all I know it could be sampled from the latter, can’t be bothered to go back and dissect the SOR track to hear if it’s isolated in any points. In my opinion though this stacks up well against “blow out”, it’s got similar elements plus there’s some nice time stretched breaks later in the tune – overall, a bit more mental and uplifting.

  1. I love this track, first heard it in Dougal’s Dreamscape 7 set when I was first getting into oldskool back last June. Probably ranks pretty high up there for me for that reason alone. It was a new sound to me, and this track has exactly what you said it had, a mental and uplifting vibe.

  2. Always thought The Incredible Bass Machine was the best track that Bass Selective wrote, However this is still a strong contender.

  3. Without doubt one of my favourite EVER oldskool tracks. Pure hype rave bizness. So much energy, I love how it switches up throughout. Catchy as well.
