Heavyweight – Vol 2

I’m pretty sure this track will be up a lot of people’s alley… absolutely massive amen smasher with choppy breaks, huge subby bass, good atmosphere sounds and a vocal sample which I think was also used in a classic Legend recs tune (the name of it is escaping my mind, I know at least it was something Ratty used to play around 93?). This track is straight ahead, not too muddled with elements, just to the point and BIG. The b side chills it out a bit and has slightly more restrained breaks, also a good track. In fact, all 3 of the Heavyweight EPs are worth tracking down – no idea who was behind these (possibly Dillinja?) but they’re all well produced and fun to spin.

  1. heavyweight vol.2 is not by phoetek……………..it’s by a guy called dj ruffkut(dave hook).I was with him when they got pressed.I have all 3 10″ vols

  2. Thanks for the info, makes sense since Ruffkut did the other volumes. Big up your buddy, he made some great tunes (I got all the heavyweight ones and his EPs on No U Turn are great as well)

  3. great blog. checked in a few years ago and forgot about you guys. this TUNE is possibly my all time fave, was after it forever, finally ID’d it after years of hearing it on other tapes, etc. And then FINALLY bagged a copy off discogs as a birthday gift to myself late last year. Once ID’d I was also told it was Ruffkut, tho it fer certain sounds like a Dilli/Photek collab. THe drums after the breakdown are some of the best chops I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard many. Cheers.
