With the renewed interest in darkside lately, here’s a longtime favorite I don’t hear spun or talked about much… Mr Mix + Terroreyes (no idea about the people behind those alises) did three great singles: two on Face2Face (presumably their label) and one on Dove (whose other releases were similarly dark 93-94 type tunes). Both sides of this are proper sinister 93 numbers, with this track being the more of a stompy 4/4-ish number containing feel-bad pads and dark acidy bits. This definitey is’t just “dark” in some early 90’s “intelligent deep vibey / not cheesy and euphoric” sense, it’s a seriously moody, sinister tune overall. The other side (“The Dream”) has a similar feel but combines MLK quotes with furiously chopped Brain Records-esque amens.
Mr Mix & Terroreyes – Darkness
(track removed as rereleased on hardcore junglism)
this is a nice one. where are you seeing renewed interest in darkside? just curious. because …well i’d like to hear what people are doing!
The price of a lot of darkside has gone up a fair bit… some 3-4 pound records I now see for 30-40. In general I think the oldskool vinyl market has sort of shifted from being 92 obscurity and anthem centric a few years back to 93-94 vinyl going for a bit more in a lot of cases. Of course there are many exceptions to this and expensive records usually stay expensive records, but in general I think I see more people with an interest in darkside now, more darkside mixes popping up(unfortunately largely mp3j stuff with the same big darkside tracks since everyone can instantly have the same pricey in-demand know ntracks), etc. There’s also a few exciting darkside labels nowadays like Demonic Possession and Seventh Story Projects who have releases out and have cool stuff about to drop…
decent tune, don’t remember hearing it back in the day
