Capone (Dillinja) – Black Wax EP

Just got this recently, a great early Dillinja single from 93 under his Capone alias. Quite a lot of Dillinja’s early productions were amen smashers, and while there’s some good amen tracks on this EP, this is a darker tune with breaks similar to the intro of Edge of Darkness “Hellraiser”. As with the label Deep Seven, I’m kind of kicking myself for not picking up more on this label back when it was cheaper, I’ve only got two of the eight releases and pretty much all the others are on my wantlist.

  1. yeah sorry about that, it’s driving me nuts, tried recording this 3 times, w/ different program, different soundcard, changing buffer settings, etc… at this point it might just be the fact I left it going through a Serato interface. I’m going to try to rewire stuff or move a spare turntables up to record directly through a phono pre-amp soon.

  2. in the meantime, if someone checks this site a lot and wants to send me a list of any damaged rips they’ve noticed, will make sure to try to rerecord those once I get the sound sorted this weekend. The problem is that when I’m recording them I’m usually listening to the original record output just to make sure there’s no record skips, then checking various parts of the resulting rip to EQ etc. I don’t usually sit there and listen to the full final rip from start to finish which is where i’d notice the occasional digital clips.

  3. Only bought this a couple of months back after finally getting the track posted here I.D’d after searching for years! Only ever heard this track played by Top Buzz on his Obsession Freedom 25.9.93 set and it blew me away. Great Post Pete! Gonna dig this out and give it a spin now!!

  4. i can rip mine if it will help?

also do you have/have you heard Majestic B-Line EP? there is a non-amen tune on that that’s really neat.

  5. sure Jay, if you don’t mind reripping while I sort out my turntables (think I’m gonna move a spare 1200 upstairs to my main PC rather than recording through my dj setup), would be great! I’ll switch it over + give you credit etc.

  6. Awesome thanks for this mate, I’ll give you a full list in the next 7 days (this week crazy busy!) of ones I noticed the little scratchy clip noises and some corresponding times for then occur.. it’s been going since at least Redshift or slightly before, however did not want to complain as figured was scratches on records

  7. Sounds alright to me. Anyway, props to 0=0 who mentioned the Majestic B-Line EP. Every track on that is fantastic. Infact I should probably buy a new copy as I have rinsed mine since day one.

This is possibly my favourite track off the ep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XvKRGFwp_U

I remember they used to use this track on an advert on Kool FM back in the day. Can’t really remember what the advert was for now, but I think that it was just an advert for the station itself.

  8. yeah that’s a choice single, do you remember when you got it? discogs says 94 but it’s interesting how other later (in release #) records on that label say they were released in 93.

  9. Majestic B-line is for sure 1993.

I re-ripped the Black Wax EP from my Near-Mint (only played twice) copy for you. Email soon.
