Escape – Unknown Element

Here’s an obscurity I grabbed on the cheap recently… the A side is more of a happy vocal tune which I’m not as keen on, but this b side track is up my alley- filtered dominator synth business. Pretty straightahead track structure and the beats aren’t too crazy, but enough elements to keep my interest (and hopefully yours). The label it’s on (Ruby Red Records) is probably best known to oldskool nerds for the much sought after Power Zone – Addicted to Love EP, or perhaps Raging Rockers “Jungle Radio” (which I prefer to “Addicted to love”)

  1. I’m glad you like. It was recorded in a little studio near signal radio in Stoke. The beat is indeed Let your backbone slide, an awesome track. There was even a couple of samples there that were thrown in from White labels that were knocking around the studio (hence the name unknown element). It was produced by the guy that produced activ8. I had some great feedback forms from djs that had the promo back in the day. One of my proudest moments (does that mean I have had a sad life?). Back in the day I was also friends with Phil Webster (powerzone) but haven’t seen him for MANY years (don’t think he stayed in Stafford).

  2. Cool, thanks for leaving a comment! Did you do any other similar tracks back then, or was this a one off project?
I need to remember to rip “jungle radio” soon…

  3. I did 3 tracks when I went to the studio, I should have the dat tape somewhere. I recall that the sound engineer, Mike, played me a track that he created, ‘here comes the beat’ which I thought was excellent. Don’t know if he released it, but if I can find my dat tape I’m quite sure he copied it to dat for me….. but we are talking 20 years ago :-s
Every now and then I search the net to see if unknown element turns up in a mix somewhere, but no luck so far 🙁

  4. ah nice, well if you ever find that DAT and have a means of getting the tracks off of it, I’m sure we’d all love to hear! Don’t worry, I’ll throw that unknown element tune in a future mix for sure 🙂
