Original RAW – Rollin’

Switching gears from 92, here’s a wicked 96 track which shows the upside of more jump-up style sounds, before “jump up” became a bit of a dirty word for some people (raises hand sheepishly + looks around the room). Here you get that thick bass sound so prevalent in jump-up, mixed with more subby stabs, classic “Do the Do” and “Sesame Street” breakbeats (not unfamiliar in jump up but more chopped than usual here), plus a classic funk sample I’m not going to even pretend to recognize… anyone wanna ID it? No truly shocking elements, but a fun energetic upfront tune which still has some good sequencing and drum chops (not a simple straight loop over and over). Definitely would be fun to throw in a mix, and worth checking for fans of classics like “Lighter”. Interesting to note that the “Original R.A.W.”, also known as “R.A.W.” on some releases is isn’t the one from LA, who I think is known as 6Blocc now (though he might still DJ as RAW?). This is/was a UK artist who released on this label Assassin as well as Awesome.

Apologies for the serious crackles, hopefully this one’s not too hard to track down… slightly later 96 stuff like this by and large seems a bit easier to find than 95, though there’s some exceptions.
