Interface – Questions

Here’s a bit of a hidden gem, a low-fi dark 93 tune lurking on an EP of otherwise happy piano stuff. Tuch Wood is best known for putting out Johnny L “hurt u so”, and the rest of this EP sounds like it was meant to be along those lines… big melodies, female vocals, etc. However, “Questions” gives pitch shifted breakbeats + chopped amens at a quicker tempo, and darker melodies than on any of the other tracks. The only real downside is that the production is a bit thin for a 1993 (The beats don’t hit as hard as they could), but it’s still a cool track that I think is heavily overlooked. If this had been on a white label and a bit more limited it might have ended up being one of those in-demand white labels fetching heavy sums online, instead I see copies for sale right now for 50p to 1 pound or so. Oh well, their loss is your gain!

  1. Not heard this before, enjoying it alot and for £1 i think ill pick up a copy for myself, cheers.

PS, are the grooves in your vinyl slightly warped or is it just my imagination?

  2. not sure, could be my decks as I think maybe one of my tonearms is a bit bent.. been meaning to bring them in to be checked out but it’s almost cheaper to buy a new used pair now (they go for $150-200US per turntable and fixing the tonearms alone can cost $190)

  3. Not to be confused with hardcore legend Interface (aka Mike Ash) then? Threw me for a while there…. 😉

  4. got so touched from hearing this today.

aliasing noise on the samples is awful though. tune is murderous though.

  5. cool, someone buy the single and let me know if it’s my turntables /cartridges/stylus or the record itself!

  6. This is a slammer!! Can’t believe I’ve never heard this before, would love to hear the rest of the EP but I can’t find it online – anyone got a link?
