This tune is a bit more straightahead and steppy than I usually go for in 95 tracks, but it’s well done and worth checking for sure. “Time is Now” uses the classic Lafayette Afro Rock Band – Darkest Light Horn snippet, as used previously in Dance Conspiracy – Dub War, and before that, by Public Enemy in “Show em What We Got”. Beat-wise, it’s got Sesame Street and Life Could breaks, coupled with a classic dub siren and a tidy little Onyx vocal snippet (this one: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9ehUz0QEi-4#t=1m1s<\/a> if you’re curious). Nothing too special in the tune elements themselves, the main things that set this track apart are 1. the fact that it gets in and out quite fast (under 5 minutes), and, most of all, 2. the bass. SERIOUS bass in this tune, in fact it’s almost like there’s 2 basslines: an initial one which is a bit highpassed and understated\/not that hard hitting, and then an extra sub bass layered in during during critical sections. I had to rerecord this rip because the first time it was clipping – second time in and keeping the relative volume low, I still swear there’s a few parts where it’s too loud. Either way, this will give you a good gist of the tune, definitely a nice contrast to more frantic and choppy amen-centric tunes of the time, plus quite obscure I think.
