Switching gears from 92, here’s a wicked 96 track which shows the upside of more jump-up style sounds, before “jump up” became a bit of a dirty word for some people (raises hand sheepishly + looks around the room). Here you get that thick bass sound so prevalent in jump-up, mixed with more subby stabs, classic “Do the Do” and “Sesame Street” breakbeats (not unfamiliar in jump up but more chopped than usual here), plus a classic funk sample I’m not going to even pretend to recognize… anyone wanna ID it? No truly shocking elements, but a fun energetic upfront tune which still has some good sequencing and drum chops (not a simple straight loop over and over). Definitely would be fun to throw in a mix, and worth checking for fans of classics like “Lighter”. Interesting to note that the “Original R.A.W.”, also known as “R.A.W.” on some releases is isn’t the one from LA, who I think is known as 6Blocc now (though he might still DJ as RAW?). This is\/was a UK artist who released on this label Assassin as well as Awesome.<\/p>\n
Apologies for the serious crackles, hopefully this one’s not too hard to track down… slightly later 96 stuff like this by and large seems a bit easier to find than 95, though there’s some exceptions.
