Here’s a great oft-overlooked tune from Moving Shadow. I typically don’t post their stuff for legal reasons (it’s all for sale already on beatport etc), but I’m going to start featuring youtube clips of some Shadow and Suburban Base favs occasionally, along with links to the mp3 stores that sell them… definitely worth buying these mp3s, as aside from supporting the label head \/ rightsholder, you end up with crystal clear digital rips from DAT as opposed to the crum-bum lowfi vinyl rips I usually provide here for small label releases. <\/p>\n
In the case of this release though, if you’re still a vinyl curmudgeon like me, you’ll be happy to check the discogs link and find vinyl copies selling for less than the price of the 2 tracks on this release on beatport or dnba. An important fact since you’ll definitely want BOTH tracks of this EP, both are serious vibey tunes. <\/p>\n
I actually left a comment about this record 4+ years ago on discogs, it still sums up my opinion of it pretty succinctly… though I no longer agree about the “jazzy” vibe, definitely think this has more of a distinct 94 atmo jungle sort of feel with none of the tell-tale cheese of full on “intelligent jazzy” jungle<\/p>\n
Definitely one of the overlooked shadow EPs (as evidenced by the rating and price of copies being sold on here).<\/p>\n
“Trouble in China” has a simple but effective melody, combined with SERIOUSLY chopped\/layered beats that give modern “drumfunk” more than a run for its money. The melody might have a bit of 94\/95 quasi-jazz vibe which I think turns off some fans of early stuff, but the vocal line (“why don’t you reach for me… why don’t you reach for my soul”) is golden. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
