DJ Massive – The Shaker Song (Fat Props)

Here’s an EP that I’m a bit hesitant to post since it’s such a top personal fav, but it still manages to stay under a lot of people’s radar – I would almost rather eventually drop it in a mix or something like that. But, it’s been ages since I recorded an oldskool mix, so here you go. DJ Massive did a BUNCH of cool EPs before disappearing off the face of the earth (anyone with contact info for him – PLEASE CONTACT ME!!). This EP is arguably my favorite by him. Ironically it’s the second track on each side which is the top pick for me – on the A side you have “Slammin”, a frantic almost happy hardcore sounding track which Easygroove dropped in Dreamscape VII to devastating result. And on the B side, you have this absolutely awesome proto-ragga jungle track – similarly hyperfast dense breaks coupled with ragga vocals that don’t let up. absolutely sick tune, A+++ / good communication / would buy from again, etc. 🙂

  2. Wow! Great minds think alike. DJ Massive is also a personal fave of mine. Never got that much attention apart from that Massive Overload tune. Shame. I was just listening to this tune on an old mix of mine the other day and wondering where the ragga sample was from. Any idea?

  4. DJ Massive/RoyBreaks – you on twitter? certainly a good way to get the sounds out there again. HCV 007 was one of my first vinyls and still one of the most inspiring. There’s a real energy and originality to those beats

  5. hey Roy…….I would love a copy of that CD…. any chance? I ran in to Esmerelda this morning (havent seen her in a couple of years but was thinking of her last night) and it got me thinking of all of you guys!! found a fab you tube video of you and solo-e….it totally made me smile.

  6. Yes Roy! Glad i’ve stumbled across you on here, i used to work at the astoria and at the fantasy offices in Marylebone during those (turbulent) few years, i used to see you a lot back then. I’ve been on the hunt for some of your really old bits from that era, your acetate version of get your body is something i remember from the astoria tapes of your sets. It seems different from the versions that came out. longer and more of a dub, still sounds so sick…Anyway, sorry for the geekout – fullest respect to you man, for me those were good days, i have fond memories of you, my friend chris who worked at fantasy too, stacey, vicci and the other dancers, mad ben, steve paton and of course chalkie 🙂

  7. Just stumbled across this. I’ve been looking contact for Dj Massive aka ROY LASPRILLA. The CD sounds nice, would love a copy of that. If anyone can put me in touch that would be great. my favourite is Burning Chrome ‎– “How Long Must I Wait?” on Huxley Records. I got it at the time and it still kicks.

  8. Just wanted to see if this cd that was mentioned by Roy (DJ Massive) ever materialised – loved the 12″s that came out back in the day & just found another which I didn’t know the name of until today!! (Ruff In The Comfort Zone) – always heard it on the pirates but completely forgot about it until someone posted up a youtube link on facebook today 🙂

So if this cd did get sent, what was on it and did Roy give permission to share it out??

    Cheers,
    RG.

  9. nope, lost contact with him after this sadly.. will fire a few emails, see if he’s around!
