Someone on B2VOS posted up a link to the recently hyped / much wondered about Carl Cox “oldskool set”, and it was, erm, as pretty much as expected. I guess it makes sense when considering he labelled it as an “oldschool” set not “oldschool hardcore” that it’s mostly bigger techno/house classics… Still, for anybody who has seen footage of him spinning circa 92-93 and considering that this came from the guy who really helped cement the fundamentals of hardcore with his success-n-effect/landlord mashup track, it’s hard not to be a little bit dissapointed.
As for what he does play, there’s plenty of good house/techno in there (“Red 2” , Bassheads “Anybody Out There”, that sick Frank De Wulf track, etc). The only moment that really bugs me is Cox spinning a brand new Prodigy track while simultaneously yelling “oh yes oh yes back in the day right here”… simply not true.
Here’s a partial tracklist which was posted along w/ the mix, seems pretty legit up until 40 mins in. There’s definitely some tracks not listed after that point but I kind of lose interest by then so I didn’t bother to add to it. If anybody wants to listen to the rest though, feel free to leave a comment. Thanks to BunkerHeadz from Discogs for completing the tracklist.

Looks pretty similar to the “old skool” set that he played at Bestival this year. Was cool fun and all but, like you say, a little disappointing knowing what he used to be like.
He finished the night with the Prodigy track when I saw him! Shocker
Carl Cox treats hardcore like a red headed stepchild

thanks, updating the entry now
He was brilliant at EH1, tunes were epic, only difference from back in the day was the crowd . . . anybody out there can do better . . . lets hear it!
I can only assume you didn’t see Carl back in the day, “The Yes oh yes”was classic Mcing in 91 that’s what he is referencing not the Tune
Carl was always eclectic and that’s what made him stand out
