OK, even though I don’t post many new releases, time to catch up with some really worthy cool ones which I’ve seen as of late….
I should probably apologize to the guy who put this out about not posting this earlier, I actually got sent some of these with the OK to post a track or two prior to release date, but hit a super busy week at work with no time to post at all. Also, some iffyness regarding what tracks I could and couldn’t post up… It’s since been released though and is a really cool FREE comp including notable artists like Manix(!!!), Cartridge, Tim Reapah, Taype (who reads this blog and sent me some cool tracks a couple years back), Earl Gray and many more. Each track is labelled as a “tribute” to a certain year. While the years/styles are generally congruent, to my ears there’s a little bit of variability – some stuff in year X sounds more like X+1 or X-1 to me, but regardless of this the track quality is really high especially for a free net release. One of the 93 tracks I even forgot was a new tune, listened back to in my radio show and was stumped as to what record I had played.
Definitely check this out, and check the blog which released it Two Hungry Ghosts for all types of great posts on music (dnb and otherwise), art, etc.

Saturday, June 30th, 2012DJ Producer’s Bogwoppa/Dance Bass mix
Saturday, June 30th, 2012Wicked mix here by DJ Producer of tracks on Bogwoppa/Dance Bass. As his description puts it Bogwoppa is pretty top notch when it comes to super rough, b/boy break-centric, sampleadelic, beyond manic hardcore/jungle tunes!! I actually have a long lost interview I sent off to Julian (DJ Hellfish, aka the artist behind these releases) re: Bogwoppa some years ago, but never got replies back… hey Julian, if you ever find it, would love to post it still!!
Derek C – Can’t Stop the Feeling
Friday, June 29th, 2012Here’s a nice 91 whitelabel I picked up for 50 cents in LA earlier this year… reissued later on this EP, “Can’t Stop the Feeling” uses the classic Mainline acapella by Jason Load Experience feat Ivonya, as used in loads of hardcore/jungle tracks (Omni Trio – Mainline, Lemon D – Feel It, 4 Hero – We Bring the Trophy, etc), with some big synths, solid breaks and a kind of interesting gated horn part. Not the craziest hardcore track ever, but definitely a fun track.

Jungletrain Radio Show – 6/24 (dl + tracklist)
Friday, June 29th, 2012Sorry I never posted this but it got cut off, I was going to try to recover and merge the second part but ehhhh here’s the first hour anyway.
Last jungletrain show was fun, it ended up being 92 style before moving into 93/94… I went in with no idea what to play and only a handful of records pulled, thanks to people in the jungletrain chatroom for the requests and suggestions. Lots of grabbing random tracks off the wall on the fly,so it’s far from seamless. But the tunes are a nice combo of a couple rare lesser known bits, plus lots of big fun classic tunes I haven’t played in a while.

Trans Vexed – Rambo
Wednesday, June 27th, 2012Another unknown gem / personal fav I feel a bit reluctant to publicly share.. gotta put this one up though since I think it’ll appeal in particular to some friends and regular supporters of this blog. I’m always on the lookout for the fastest, craziest, most mashed up early hardcore/jungle tracks I can find. While this tune is far from the craziest, it’s definitely a step in the right direction! Frantically layered breakbeats, ragga vocals + gunshots (as Bebbers pointed out in the comments, from Ackie – Call me Rambo), plus extra bleep sounds all fire away at a steady pace, followed by a sinister melody added in the second half of the tune and some nice phasing on the breaks (possibly done by doubling the break sample up with a slightly shorter duration version as was the trick back then). Though I’d be happy if it was even crazier and had more breakbeat changeups, this is a really nice lesser known slice of manic hardcore junglism. The track’s production is also surprisingly sharp, as most Deja Vu / 786 stuff has a certain degree of “grimeyness” to it. Honestly you could probably add a think break underneath this and treat it as a slightly more fi 94 ragga jungle tune!

EOAD – Pleasure
Sunday, June 24th, 2012Damn, looks like I’ve got some catching up to do on the posts! As always when I slack on posts for a while, here’s a special track I might not normally want to just post up and name – a total personal favorite which I don’t think was in many mixes and hence isn’t too tough to nab. I’ve been dropping it in blog to the oldskool radio shows without naming it outright, so for anyone who asked or was wondering… here you go! EOAD (aka Ecstacy on a Dream) were an Ibiza-related act most known for the summery “Love’s the Feeling”, which I already featured on the blog. This is on the Move Me EP which DSP previously posted a track from a couple of years back, however this track is my favorite by far. The gated battering sixteenth notes, vocal cuts, female vocals and hardcore bass come across as euphoric but not cheesy…definitely making this track one I reach for on the regular.

Vibes – Underground Vibes
Sunday, June 17th, 2012Here’s a nice score from my last NY trip a few weeks ago. Had this on my wants for a while, in retrospect it’s not a super crazy catchy track but it has “that weather report break” which is one of my top top few favorite breakbeats, plus some good oft-used ragga samples in it. The artist behind this didn’t do much oldskool but did quite a few speed garage releases years later, under the name DJ Supreme (not to be confused with DJ Supreme in Hijack, or the one on Bogwoppa). Not much else to say about this one other than it’s a cool no label release, def worth checking out the other tracks as well!

Skeeta Ranks – I Like it (Jungle Mix)
Friday, June 15th, 2012After jungle first started blowing up in 94/95, lots of jungle remixes began popping up on more mainstream hiphop and rnb releases. Already featured heavily on UK pressed dancehall releases by labels like Jet Star and Fashion, these new remixes were a bit more dodgey since they were a mixture of original/legit heads and opportunistic johnny-come-lately’s. Thankfully, it doesn’t get more legit than the guys who did this remix. New Blood has got to be one of the best ragga jungle producers of all time, with just a full few records to their name but where each one is an absolute scorcher – “Worries in the Dance” is one of the top few ragga jungle tracks ever, featured on countless jungle comps back in the day as well as still popping up on oldskool throwback comps. “My Sound” is a serious ragga jungle tune which I now HEAVILY regret not picking up 5-10 years ago when I used to see it in the 15-20 pound range (figuring It’d eventually go down in price)… now it seems to be fetching upwards of $100 :O Even if those tracks are a bit pricey/hard to find, New Blood did a few excellent remixes on labels like Jet star, Greensleeves, Street Tuff and even Island Recordings. This is probably one of the less well known ones, on Nervous Sublabel “Weeded Records” (hehe). Serious choppy jungle beats combined with solid enough ragga and r+b vocals, also quite easy to find and cheap to nab.. nice solid track here!

DJ Dara 91 mix
Friday, June 15th, 2012Now that the radio show has been up for a bit, time to post up the Dara mix at full bitrate (320Kbps), along with a tracklist.
Like I mentioned before, this one was a doozie..while featuirng loads of memorable tracks, it bypasses a lot of the biggest tracks of the time in favor of slept on jams. I feel like I’ve written some slightly modified version of that sentence about 4 or 5 times now, but it’s true!! It also happens to one of the primary goals of this blog (to try to feature lesser known tracks, while still posting tunes which are actually really good and memorable, not just hyper-rare or impossible to track down). Check the Strictly Underground mini-mix towards the beginning, 4 or 5 tracks of their best!! (“This is London” is a personal favorite that I love opening slower sets with).

Jungletrain radio show 6/8/2012 – mp3 and tracklist
Saturday, June 9th, 2012Fun show Wednesday night…usual dodgy mixing on my part made up by the much better mixing in Dara’s set. Big thanks to him for providing the 91 guest mix. I gave out a bunch of IDs during the show, with his OK I’m going to eventually post this mix with full tracklisting at full bitrate. In the meantime, check it here, 1 hour into the set.
